Seventh Heaven

Regarding Sean Burn’s recent film review of Seven Pounds:

Sean Burns could not be more wrong about this film. His criticism is so far off-target that it makes one wonder what movie he was watching. Will Smith and Rosario Dawson gave extremely emotional performances that give this movie a very human and authentic feeling.

I guarantee that when this movie is released, theaters will have to keep mops on hand to absorb the flood of tears that will be shed by moviegoers of all types. Seven Pounds is the most beautiful movie to be created in a long time.

Gay Old Time

Regarding Matt Prigge’s recent review of Were the World Mine:

Wow—hopefully the readers of this are smart enough to laugh at this review. If you actually knew A Midsummer Night’s Dream then you’d understand the plot twist that Gustafson uses in the film and wouldn’t say it was “out of left-field.”

You should reread Midsummer and then maybe you will understand and appreciate what the film is doing. You totally missed the point. I saw the film at the Philadelphia Gay and Lesbian Film Festival this summer and highly recommend it to everyone! It’s fun, smart, refreshing and has great music.

Unguided Tour

Regarding Tim McGinnis’ recent Field Guide:

Dimitri’s octopus gets a bad review? I bet you don’t believe in Santa Claus, either. I’ve been eating at the Third and Catherine location since it opened. Rarely a bad meal and the staff is wonderful. I trust your less than memorable experience is strictly relegated to the Pine Street location.

Alien Nation

Regarding Steven Wells’ recent cover story about UFO sightings in the area:

Great article! Kudos to everyone, including my loving fiance, Chris Augustin, for all of their hard work! Although I’m not a total believer, you all devote yourselves to something you truly believe in and I really commend you on that.

A great article covering a couple of great guys. Keep up the good work, Chris and Bob.Keep on keeping your eyes to the skies!

BYRON C. VANAS
via philadelphiaweekly.com

The next time these people are in touch with these UFO entities, tell them to round up these drug dealers that are desiccating our neighborhoods. Our country is being torn apart, major money is being lost by governments.

Maybe these beings will have a use for them. These vermin have no place in our country.

Crossword Puzzled

Regarding the permanent removal of the crossword:

I truly appreciate your incisive reporting and thought-provoking columns. That said, WHERE’S THE BLOODY CROSSWORD? It wouldn’t matter so much except that IT REALLY MATTERS TO ME! Yes, I realize that caps indicates yelling, and that’s precisely what I’ve done (expletives not deleted at the time) upon finding NO CROSSWORD for the past few weeks. It’s a great crossword—challenging, but not quite NYT-Sunday demoralizing. Perfect!

Correction

Contrary to our Dec. 10 report, the Kingsessing Recreation Center in Southwest Philadelphia is open and will remain so. There is no plan for a discontinuation of any services. PW regrets the error.
